From 1964 to 1973, The Parachute Regiment in Aldershot was primarily associated with the 16th Parachute Brigade, with the regiment's 3 PARA battalion being regularly deployed to Northern Ireland for Operation Banner. This period was marked by the regiment's significant involvement in the Troubles, including the Bloody Sunday incident in 1972 and the subsequent IRA bombing of the 16th Parachute Brigade Officer's Mess in Aldershot in February 1972.
